THE MINI FRIDGE – “Mia provides a great sense of comical urgency – with the right actress and bold directorial style, this will be a bombastic effort similar to The African Desperate.”

Nominated: Best Genre Script, Winner: Best Micro Budget Script

Finding Elpis – “With a feeling similar to the animations of the late 90’s and early 2000’s, Finding Elpis has a sense of specificity with what it wants to say, and the type of narrative it suits. This is a great example of comical content.” 

Nominated: Best Genre Script

A Rural Feud – “Stark, blunt and very well written, this little gem carries a lot of written style in its short format. The action description is some of the best we’ve had at the festival in terms of writing technique!”

Winner: Best Technique, Nominated: Best Concept

The Widow of Summit Springs – “With a period piece element, this script finds new ground in the complex crime genre. This concept is nuanced, and a great nostalgia piece.”

Nominated: Best Script, Nominated: Best Concept

Moving On – “A puzzling little piece full of mystery and interesting ideas, one which is largely reliant on the characters and their dynamics. Very entertaining.” 

Nominated: Best Character arc

Find Her – “Written with a large ensemble cast in mind, this script boasts a strong potential for being a crowd pleasing experience loaded with lots of nuanced moments.” 

Winner: Best Concept (tied)

Portraits Of Reality – “Written as a bit of a thriller, this effort recalls the likes of Kiss the Girl and Along Came a Spider. It’s long though, and at times leans a bit heavily on genre tropes.” 

Nominated: Best Genre Script 

Working Tacoma – “With detailed dialogue passages, Working Tacoma at times leans towards being a sort of theatrical presentation on film. It carries a great sense of characterisation though, which is greatly developed through the dynamics between the different players.”

Nominated: Best Character Arc

Annabel and Poe – “Presented as an experimental film, this script provides a fresh coat of paint on the Poe adaptation, recalling a touch of Coppola’s strange personal film Twixt.”

Nominated: Best Concept 

How Possible. – “Short, and unique, this project comes delivered as a very insightful piece regarding the personal spaces people inhabit and the lives they can carve out for themselves.”

Nominated: Best Script 

Eva’s Tango – “With an endearing topic, this script shines the most with its use of a strong female lead who decides to defy convention to allow others to be seen and heard. This script has a nice touch of voice over, and a strong understanding of world-building.”

Winner: Best Character Arc

Knucklemen – “Written with great care and detail in terms of human interaction and community building, this script shines when it flexes… but is, perhaps, at times – a bit expensive for the contemporary indie budget.” 

Nominated: Best Technique

Angels Desired – “An odyssey of a film – special and memorable. Very ambitious.” 

Winner: Best Concept (tied)

Good Ole Joe – “A fun and playful concept, Good Ole Joe feels very modern and comical.”

Race You – “With a great sense of characterisation, this script really boasts a lot of great interactions and moods. It does, though, have a strange runtime, which will be complicated to pitch for production as a short film… perhaps some cutting will help, or expanding to a feature.”

Floating Away – “This short is so quick to the punch, it makes for a great skit… it does though have some strange writing script-syntax.” 

Nominated: Best Super Short 

Survivor – “Comical and even brash at times, this journey recalls HBO’s Enlightened. Would be fun to see it brought to the screen with actors.”

Nominated: Best Genre Script 

Jail Break – “In keeping with expectations of a genre, Jail Break finds new ground to errr… break! A great potential for a larger indie production effort.” 

Nominated: Best Script 

The Enforcers – “This fresh take on the bank location is an unusual script. The characteristics are comical and engaging. With the right cast, this could make a great short film or even a great short play.”

Echoes Of Humanity – “An intriguing piece with lots of conceptual ideas… recalls the work of Manoj Nelliyattu “M. Night” Shyamalan.”

Silence of Fury – “With a bold concept and creative delivery, this script delivers an impressive punch!”

Nominated: Best Script, Nominated: Best Technique

A ‘Sort of’ Love Story – “This two hander script explores a creative and short experiment on the romance genre. It needs two great actors to carry it to the screen.”

Nominated: Best Genre Script

Elixir – “This short is very tight in its delivery – and is excitingly so!”

Nominated: Best Super Short

Please Remain Calm – “A quick page turner of excitement!”

Winner: Best Super Short 

The Thirsty Optimist – “The characterisation of the lead character and the journey they undertake to keep their habits at bay are great. This would be a solid script for a hungry cast!”

Nominated: Best Character arc

Avant Guard – “With a quirky set up, recalling the likes of Jaques Tati, this script spins a quick romance of delight in an almost silent setting.”

Nominated: Best Genre Script 

BELIEF – “It is a wild and exciting project with lots of potential for directors, actors and production design to have a heap load of fun executing!”

Winner: Best Genre Script 

Fat Cats – “Conceptually this script takes on a region that is rarely depicted on film, and does so with some very unique and exciting ideas.” 

Nominated: Best Script 

The Alliance (#101) – “Where many scripts fail to find a personal voice in their work, Rachel’s script comes loaded with a unique blend of genre and bold representation. The runtime is a bit odd – is it a feature or aTV pilot? – but this is, through and through, an overdue genre film packed with a strong lead character. Bravo!”
